Florida woman sues Chick-fil-A location over ‘black’ chicken nugget meat
WE’LL TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE TRAVEL TIMES AND ANOTHER LOOK AT THIS CRASH COMING UP IN A FEW MINUTES. ALL RIGHT, MEGAN, PLANS ARE COMING TOGETHER TO BUILD A PERMANENT MEMORIAL FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE PULSE NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING. IT WAS SEVEN YEARS AGO WHEN A GUNMAN WALKED INTO THAT CLUB AND KILLED 49 PEOPLE AND LEFT MORE THAN 50 OTHERS HURT. WESH 2’S BOB HAZEN JOINS US LIVE THIS MORNING. BOB, EVEN THOUGH CITY COMMISSIONERS APPROVED BUYING THE PROPERTY, THE MAYOR SAYS THEY DON’T HAVE ALL THE DETAILS YET. YEAH, REALLY, THEY DON’T HAVE ANY OF THE DETAILS WORKED OUT YET ABOUT WHAT THAT PERMANENT MEMORIAL WOULD LOOK LIKE. BUT THEY FEEL LIKE BUYING PULSE IS THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE SURE THAT SOMETHING ACTUALLY HAPPENS AT THIS SITE. NOW, CITY COUNCIL GAVE THAT FINAL APPROVAL YESTERDAY TO SPEND $2 MILLION TO BUY PULSE. AND THAT COMES AFTER YEARS OF FAILED ATTEMPTS TO GET BARBARA POMA AND THE OTHER OWNERS OF THE NIGHTCLUB TO DONATE IT. AND THE ONE PULSE FOUNDATION IS ALSO NEVER BEEN ABLE TO WORK OUT HOW TO BUILD A PERMANENT MEMORIAL ON THE SITE OF THE CLUB. THE VICTIMS FAMILIES AND SURVIVORS HAVE BEEN HOPING FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN FOR YEARS, AND THE MAYOR SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH HE WISHES THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO PAY THE POMA’S, IT’S THEIR ONLY OPTION. DO I WANT TO PAY THEM $2 MILLION? NO, I DON’T REALLY WANT TO PAY $2 MILLION. I WOULD HAVE RATHER SEEN THE PROPERTY DONATED EITHER TO US OR TO ONE PULSE. MY HOPE IS THAT THERE IS TO SERVE AS A REMINDER, AS A REMINDER AND A BEACON OF HOPE THAT WE WERE A COMMUNITY. OUR WORLD CAME TOGETHER. WE NEED TO SHOW THAT. AND AS FOR WHAT COMES NEXT, THE MAYOR SAYS HE DOESN’T KNOW IF THE CITY WILL HAVE TO FORM A NEW NONPROFIT TO PLAN THE MEMORIAL OR LOOK FOR SOME NEW FUNDRAISING AS WELL. THERE’S NO TIMELINE FOR WHEN THAT MEMORIAL WILL ACTUALLY BE BUILT HERE. REPORTING LIVE IN ORLANDO, BOB HAZEN, WESH 2 NEWS AND BOB. IT WAS SUCH AN EMOTIONAL TIME FOR THE MANY PEOPLE WHO SIGNED UP TO SPEAK AT THIS MEETING. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT’S PERSONAL TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM. SOME SPOKE YESTERDAY IN PERSON, OTHERS VIRTUALLY ON ZOOM. TAKE A LISTEN. I BELIEVE THAT SHOULDN’T BUY IT. I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD DONATE IT BECAUSE $2 MILLION IS TOO MUCH MONEY FOR PULSE. AND I BELIEVE THAT THE TRUTH SHOULD COME OUT, NEEDS TO COME OUT BECAUSE IT’S IT’S NO GOOD. WE HAVE WASTED WAY TOO MUCH TIME, BARBARA AND ROSARIO HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT MADE THAT A CASH GRAB AND WHICH WE COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THAT THIS BUILDING IS THEIRS BY LAW. HOWEVER, FOR THERE WERE SO MANY THINGS THEY DID JUST TO KEEP IT ILLEGALLY. AND I’M NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY THIS IS PUBLIC RECORD IN THE CITY. ALL OF YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS PUTTING THE BLAME IN THE WRONG PLACE, I DON’T THINK HELPS ANYONE. THAT PROPERTY BELONGS TO THE POMA’S AND THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DO WITH IT AS THEY PLEASE IF THEY WANT TO SELL IT TO THE CITY OF ORLANDO TO DO A MEMORIAL. I DO BELIEVE IS THE RIGHT THING. BECAUSE IF THERE IS GOING TO BE A MEMORIAL, IT SHOULD BE WHERE IT HAPPENED. SO YOU CAN HEAR THE CONTROVERSY THERE. SOME SPEAKERS RENEWED CALLS FOR AN INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED CODE VIOLATIONS AND UNPERMITTED RENOVATIONS AT THE NIGHTCLUB. THEY CLAIM ALL OF THAT PREVENTED VICTIMS FROM ESCAPING THAT NIGHT AND HINDERED THE POLICE RESPONSE. NOW, THE CITY REPEATEDLY SAID THERE WERE NO LIFE SAFETY ISSUES AT PULSE. MEANWHILE, THE POEM HAS ALREADY SIGNED THE PAPERWORK. CITY LEADERS WILL CLOSE ON THE NIGHTCLUB PROPERTY ON FRIDAY. YOU CAN FIND MORE ABOUT THE PUSH TO HONOR THE 49 LIVES BY GOING TO WEST.COM. THAT’S ALSO WHERE YOU CAN TAKE A DEEPER LOOK INTO THE PROCESS FROM OUR TEAM WITH WESH 2 INVESTIGATES YOU CAN ALSO DOWNLOAD THE WESH 2 NEWS MOBILE APP TO GET ALERTS WHENEVER THERE’S A NEW UPDATE, GRIEF COUNSELORS WILL BE AT A SEMINOLE COUNTY SCHOOL TODAY TO HELP STUDENTS AND STAFF AFTER ONE OF THEIR SCHOOLMATES WAS SHOT AND KILLED OVER THE WEEKEND. POLICE BELIEVE SOMEONE TARGETED 16 YEAR OLD JAMARCUS PARKER AT THE STRATFORD POINT APARTMENTS IN SANFORD. HE WAS HANGING OUT WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS IN THE PARKING LOT JUST BEFORE SIX ON SUNDAY EVENING. THAT’S WHEN POLICE SAY TWO PEOPLE IN A CAR PULLED UP, GOT OUT, STARTED SHOOTING AND THEN DROVE OFF. PARKER WAS HIT AT LEAST TWICE AND DIED AT THE HOSPITAL. HE WAS A STUDENT AT JOURNEYS ACADEMY. AND THIS MORNING HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE STILL TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OF WHAT HAPPENED. REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, THIS WAS NOT HOW IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HANDLED, BECAUSE HE’S GONE. WE CAN’T GET HIM BACK. HIS FAMILY CAN’T GET HIM BACK. POLICE SAY THEY KNOW WHO OWNS THAT CAR THAT WAS INVOLVED IN THE SHOOTING. AND THEY’RE ASKING PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THIS COMPLEX TO SHARE ANY VIDEOS THEY MIGHT HAVE TO HELP INVESTIGATORS SOLVE THIS CASE. AND ORLANDO POLICE ARE TRYING TO TRACK DOWN THE PERSON WHO SHOT AND KILLED ANOTHER TEENAGER. THIS WAS AN 18 YEAR OLD WOMAN, AN KELLY RODRIGUEZ TORRES, DIED OVER THE WEEKEND ON BELLAIRE AVENUE AND CURRY FORD ROAD. THEY SAID A MAN WALKED UP TO HER AND THE PERSON SHE WAS WITH CLAIMING TO KNOW THEM, THEY GOT INTO AN ARGUMENT. THAT’S WHEN POLICE SAID SHE WAS SHOT IN THE BACK. IF YOU KNOW WHO POSSIBLY DID THIS, YOU CAN ANONYMOUSLY CALL CRIME LINE. A GRAND JURY INDICTED THE DAYTONA BEACH MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING HIS WIFE BEFORE SHOOTING HIMSELF. CHANTELLE ATKINS IS CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER. NOW POLICE SAY CHANTELLE ATKINS GOT INTO A DISAGREEMENT WITH HIS WIFE, CHANTELLE ATKINS, LAST THURSDAY AND THAT LED TO THE SHOOTING. HE IS STILL RECOVERING FROM HIS INJURIES. A GRAND JURY ALSO INDICTED AN EDGEWATER MAN FOR FIRST DEGREE MURDER AFTER INVESTIGATORS SAY HE SHOT THREE PEOPLE AT A HOMELESS CAMP. POLICE ARRESTED WALTER RUSSELL EARLIER THIS MONTH. HIS FIANCEE, LAURA CARTER, ALSO FACES CHARGES. 38 YEAR OLD JOHN ELLIS WAS KILLED AND TWO OTHER PEOPLE GOT HURT. WELL, IT’S NOW BEEN TWO MONTHS SINCE ORANGE COUNTY LEADERS GREENLIT A PLAN TO CUT DOWN ON SHOOTINGS AND VIOLENT CRIME IN THE AREA. AND THIS PLAN INCLUDES SIX TEEN RECOMMENDATIONS FOCUSED ON PREVENTION, INTERVENTION ENFORCEMENT AND PROSECUTION. WE TALKED TO SOME OF THE MEMBERS OF THE TASK FORCE ABOUT THEIR IDEAS TO ADD A CRISIS RESPONSE TEAM. THIS WOULD ALLOW PEOPLE TO RESPOND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY TO SHOOTINGS. THE GOAL WILL BE TO WORK WITH WITH THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY TO MAKE SURE THAT NO ONE THEN RETALIATES FOR THE CRIME AND TO GET TO THE ROOT OF THE CRIME. IT DOESN’T NECESSARILY MEAN ALL OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE GOING TO BE BUDGETED AT. THE COUNTY STAFF NOW ARE LOOKING AT THE DIFFERENT RECOMMENDATIONS AND IDENTIFYING WHICH ONES ARE PRIORITY. SO THE COUNTY GIVES THE TASK FORCE TO MILLION DOLLARS EACH YEAR. MOST OF IT IS GOING TO THE PROGRAMS THE TASK FORCE APPROVED BACK IN 2021. BUT LOOKING AHEAD AFTER THE HOLIDAYS, COUNTY LEADERS PLAN TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH EACH IDEA WILL COST AND WHERE TO TO PUT THE MONEY.
