Meredith McDonough of WESH2 joins Special Olympics Florida



On Tuesday, Special Olympics Florida announced the addition of two Board of Directors members, including WESH2’s Meredith McDonough, who will begin serving immediately. McDonough is an award-winning television journalist and anchor at WESH2 and has been a supporter of Special Olympics Florida for years. She has attended fundraisers, covered competitions and even served as a host for its special events. With this appointment, she will also be taking on a leadership role for Special Olympics Florida’s Global Messenger program. “Special Olympics Florida and its athletes have been a huge – and wonderful – part of my life,” McDonough said. “I’m thrilled now to have the opportunity to help shape its future and tell its story.”McDonough is also joined by Gary Howze II, the Colonel of the Florida Highway Patrol and trooper for more than 30 years.Special Olympics Florida President and CEO Sherry Wheelock called Howze and McDonough “spectacular additions” to the nonprofit’s Board of Directors.“Gary and Meredith have long been champions of our athletes and for all people with intellectual disabilities,” Wheelock said. “We are delighted to have them join our Board.”Special Olympics Florida provides year-round sports training and competition, health services and leadership programs to more than 62,000 people with intellectual disabilities around the state.
