Ocoee Police, family searching for shooter who killed veteran



Ocoee police and family are pleading with the community to help them find the shooter who killed a veteran.”This is devastating,” said Deidre Anderson, who is the daughter of Gregory Reed. Anderson remembers Reed as a family man.The 60-year-old was a father, grandfather, son, uncle and brother.”My dad was simply minding his business, going to work, getting off, going to take care of my siblings,” Anderson said. Police were called to the corner of Clarke Road and Silver Star Road around 8:20 p.m. Thursday.They found Reed with several gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a Publix. “For somebody to hurt this man like they did it is wrong,” said Tyron Scott, who is Reed’s cousin. “He didn’t deserve that.”Scott said Reed used to coach a little league football team in Apopka. Detectives believe Reed was shot several times near gas pump 1 at a BP gas station.They say after it happened, Reed’s car ended up in the Publix parking lot and then crashed into another car. “We believe that there may have been a verbal exchange prior to witnesses hearing the gunshots,” Ocoee Police Lt. Mireya Iannuzzi said.Surveillance video shows a Mercedes SUV leaving the gas station after the shooting.Police believe the shooter was inside the Mercedes. Another video shows the Mercedes pulling up to the gas pump when Reed’s car was trying to exit the gas station.Detectives say after a verbal exchange, several rounds were fired at Reed.He died at the hospital. “I even told God to ask him, ‘Could you please bring him back?’ and I did it several times because I miss him,” Scott said.Reed had just celebrated his mother’s birthday with his family last week.His mom was proud to raise a son who took pride in serving his country.”He was a proud veteran – U.S. Army,” Iannuzzi said. “Please help us. We are a family in dire need,” Scott said.
