Deputies in Ponte Vedra Beach fatally shot a burglary suspect who was armed with a gun Saturday.According to First Coast News, it happened near a sports complex that was filled with children.Officials say the suspect, 42-year-old Dustin Rush, was fleeing from deputies when his vehicle spun into a retention pond near Davis Park. The deputies then began chasing Rush on foot as he ran toward a soccer field at the park where children were playing.Deputies say Rush took a “defensive posture,” and a shootout occurred. “Everyone panicked, and got all of the kids on the ground, moving away from the shooter. The shooter went further down, and several cops were chasing him firing. There was a large volley of shots,” a parent identified as Aaron said. “All of the kids were traumatized, screaming, crying. Parents crying. Unbelievable in this area.”None of the deputies were hit by gunfire and the suspect was rushed to a trauma center, where he later died.
