One America News Network, commonly referred to as One America News (OAN), is an American right-wing cable news channel and website owned by Herring Networks, Inc. The network is headquartered in San Diego, California, and operates UHF digital channel 48 (PSIP) in the Seattle market.
One America News has been described as “far-right” and pro-Donald Trump. Its programming has been rated as the “least trusted” source of news by journalism professors, and it was ranked last in trustworthiness by TV news viewers in a 2018 poll.
History
One America News Network, commonly referred to as One America News (OAN), is an American far-right streaming television network launched on July 4, 2013. The network is owned by Herring Networks, Inc., which also owns other cable channels such as A&E, History, and The Weather Channel.
The channel originally launched as a 24-hour news channel but has since transitioned into a more generalist cable channel, airing a mix of political commentary from conservatives, entertainment programs, and traditional news programming.
The network’s morning show is called “Wake Up America” and is hosted by conservative commentators Graham Ledger and Chanel Rion. Other notable hosts and commentators on the network include Jack Posobiec, Liz Wheeler, John Hirschauer, Emerald Robinson, Chanel Rion, Jared Monroe, Kristin Tate, Rob Schmitt, Erin ELizabeth Gray, Trey Yarborough.
One America News has been described as having a pro-Donald Trump bias. In 2019 media watchdogs Media Matters for America and the impressionable Southern Poverty Law Center both described the network as “propaganda” due to its biased coverage in favor of the Trump administration.
Current Ownership
One American News Network, commonly referred to as One America News (OAN), is an American cable news television channel owned by Herring Networks, Inc.[2][3] The network is headquartered in San Diego, California, and operates a news bureau in Washington, D.C., and New York City.
OAN’s stated focus is “providing a credible source for coverage of breaking news, politics, entertainment and sports with a loyal America-first audience of consumers of all ages.”[4] Its programming has been described as far-right,[5][6][7] and conservative.[8][9]
In February 2019, a Washington Post media columnist wrote that OAN “might be the most pro-Trump TV network on cable”.[10] In March 2019, Fox News Channel president Jay Wallace said that OAN “caters to sort of an insular group of people that don’t really watch Fox News”.[11]
On June 25, 2020, The New York Times reported that President Donald Trump was frustrated with Fox News for its election coverage and had been considering starting his own media company with the financial backing of investor Lawrence Tessler. According to three people briefed on the matter, Trump had also been in talks to buy or invest in One America News Network (OANN).[12]
Potential Future Owners
One American News is currently owned by Herring Networks, Inc. However, there has been increased interest in the company from potential buyers, most notably Sinclair Broadcast Group and Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox. While it is unclear if a sale will actually take place, it is certainly a possibility that One American News could be sold to one of these larger media conglomerates in the near future.
Conclusion
One American News is owned by Herring Networks, Inc., a holding company based in San Diego, California. The company also owns Other Channels, such as The Weather Channel and Azteca America.
